The US Open women’s tennis final will feature youngsters Emma Raducanu of Great Britain against Leylah Fernandez of Canada in the first all-teenage final at the tournament since 1999. Raducanu was also born in Canada as Fernandez hails from Montreal while Raducanu’s hometown is Toronto but she now resides in England. The last time two teenage women battled it out in the final fans saw Serena Williams beat Martina Hingis. This year’s winner will take home $2.5 million in prize money. The 18-year-old Raducanu will be appearing in her first major final after beating 17th-seed Maria Sakkari of Greece on Sept. 9th by scores of 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals. The 19-year-old Fernandez made it to the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sept. 11th by taking down second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in her semifinal match by scores of 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4.

Raducanu, who is currently ranked ranked 150th on the globe, had to win her qualifying matches to reach the main draw of the event and is appearing in just her second major and first WTA final of any kind. She’s definitely on fire as she hasn’t lost a set in the tournament, and didn’t drop one in her three qualifying rounds either.

Raducanu is the youngest woman to appear in a grand slam final since Maria Sharapova captured Wimbledon back in 2004. She’s also hoping to become the first British female to hoist a major title since Virginia Wade took the Wimbledon crown in 1977.

During her current US Open streak, Raducanu has taken care of two top-20 ranked players in the 12th-ranked Belinda Bencic and the 18th-ranked Sakkari. Fernandez has also been a giant slayer in the tournament by beating a pair of former US Open female champions in Naomi Osaka, who’s currently ranked third in the world, and the 17th-ranked Angelique Kerber. She also beat fifth-ranked

Elina Svitolina which means she’s beaten four consecutive seeded opponents.

Before this year’s US Open, Fernandez had failed to make it past the third round of a major while the furthest Raducanu had gone was reaching the fourth-round at Wimbledon this year. She dropped a set each to Osaka, Sabalenka, Kerber and Svitolina in this tournament but battled back hard to win each match.

This is a relatively evenly matched final with both youngsters aiming for a fairy tale ending to a magnificent tournament. However, Raducanu enters the match as the slight favorite with the bookmakers at bet365 to take the match at -163 while Fernandez is currently listed at +137.

There are also several other wagers available on the final at bet365 such as match handicap, total games, set betting, total sets and first set winner, first set score and total aces and faults etc.
