Adam Silver, Commissioner of the NBA penned an Opt-Ed piece today in the NY Times supporting sports betting. His argument is based on the fact that so much illegal betting goes on, so why not regulate it to make it safer and to help raise money for states via taxation.
“There is an obvious appetite among sports fans for a safe and legal way to wager on professional sporting events,” Silver writes. “Congress should adopt a federal framework that allows states to authorize betting on professional sports, subject to strict regulatory requirements and technological safeguards.”
