The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to Washington this Sunday, October 25 where they’ll take on the Redskins at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The Buccaneers enter the game with a 2-3 record and sit in third place in the NFC South. They had week six off with a bye and are ready to get back on the field. The Redskins dropped a 34-20 decision to the Jets in New York and are now last place in the NFC East with a 2-4 mark. Tampa will be attempting to win two straight for the first time this season while Washington will be hoping to snap a two-game losing streak.
- bet365 currently lists the Redskins at -3 at 4/5 with the Buccaneers +3 at 21/20 with the over/under at 43 points at 10/11
The Buccaneers bounced back from their defeat to the Panthers in week four to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 38-31 in their last outing in week five. The victory ended a long 11-match home losing skid. Quarterback Jameis Winston and running back Doug Martin both had good games as Winston went 13 for 19 in passing for a touchdown and 209 as well as a quarterback rating of 122.5. Martin chipped in with 24 carries for 123 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. In addition, he had three receptions for another touchdown and 35 more yards.
The bye may have come at a bad time for Tampa Bay since the team’s momentum may now be lost. They should enter the game as a confident bunch though especially since Washington is having trouble against the running game, which has been Tampa’s best form of attack so far. The Buccaneers will likely depend on the 26-year-old Martin again since he averages 4.1 yards for each run, which ranks him ninth in the league. Martin leads the team with 405 yards on the ground and has three touchdowns on his 90 rushes in five contests. Tampa Bay is 6-4 against the spread and 3-7 straight in their past 10 road trips.
Washington has dropped three of their past four outings and two in a row. They had a 13-10 halftime lead last weekend, but saw the Jets blow past them in the third quarter with 17 straight points. Quarterback Kirk Cousins had 196 yards in the game by going 25-for 43 in passing with a touchdown. However, he was picked off twice during the third quarter and the Jets eventually scored on each of them. Washington had a few regulars out of the lineup though including left-tackle Trent Williams, wide receiver DeSean Jackson, and starting cornerbacks Chris Culliver and DeAngelo Hall.
If the Redskins have any chance of winning this game they’ll need to get a more consistent performance from Cousins and he needs to utilize the team’s ground attack and cut out the turnovers. Washington gained just 34 yards on the ground against the Jets and that needs to improve. This means running back Alfred Morris will have to have a better game. Morris has run for a total of 96 yards in his past three contests and he’s due to have a big game soon. It could be this week since Tampa Bay’s front seven have been giving up an average of 120.4 yards on the ground each week. Washington’s run defense has struggled by conceding over 140 yards in each of their past two games to opposing running backs and they’ll have to do better against Martin. The Redskins are 4-6 in their past 10 games against Tampa Bay and are 4-5-1 against the spread in those encounters.
